Our Farm

Whilst we have diversified considerably over the last few years, the heart of Copsegrove continues to be the land and the animals that we look after.

As the name suggests Copsegrove has some 50 acres of woodland in 16 Copses, Ancient Woodland and Groves dotted amongst 190 acres of species rich grassland that carpet the sides of the Toadsmoor Valley. These rich habitats are linked by 3 miles of hedgerows, 4 miles of dry stone walls and a head ache causing 10 and a half miles of fencing!! 60 acres of arable land on the flatter and drier escarpment produce wheat, barley and importantly straw for the animals bedding during the winter.

The farm is grazed by a beautiful herd of pedigree Welsh Black beef cattle, with a single Bull serving his harem of girls. All their feed comes from the farm, hay is cut in late June and early July after the wild flowers seed has set and these mighty animals convert grass into the finest marbled beef, and, being grass fed, are extremely rich in  heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants.

The CO2 guzzling grassland and woodland and extensive nature of the herd easily outweigh any negative attributes of their ability to belch and fart! We’ve been farming ‘regeneratively’ since we started, when it was just the traditional way of rotating land between crops and livestock to best preserve the soil and encourage the land to proliferate without too much inorganic assistance.

A local abattoir pays a premium for the animals and take the majority but we butcher enough for  Feast nights, events and for our freezer! If interested in buying some of our beef please do not hesitate to get in touch.
